Whose Performance comes first ?
Does your businesses ask you to perform ? Or do you ask yourself to perform for your business to perform ?
Businesses are paper entities. They are created, run and managed with human interest, inspiration, passion, need, desire and spirit. Business activities are merely a bunch of actions, Job Descriptions, Position Titles, Remuneration and Work environment.
The Human Interest is in the core of the core of everything. Something that starts with a simple idea and interest, can evolve into a very large and complex organization over time.
It is the job of the Founder(s) to remain astutely responsible and focused on the big picture, as more and more people join the Mission. Its the Founder-responsibility to set the blueprint of the Organization Culture, sooner than later. Not anyone else's. Its important to recognize and respect this truth. Founders who delay this act or outsource it, often loose the game of creating a 'home team'. They just hire people, sometimes just believe in good faith and expect the Founder Mentality to flourish and continue to build the organization. As a Coach and Consultant, I see this very very often.
We generally tend to get carried away with the financial genetics of Successful Organizations. We get into studying their strategies, access to capital, investor-friendliness, Tech and such stuff.
Future Leaders should pause and do a completely different study. Try and discover everything about Successful Teams and see how the Founders involvement helped in creating them, succeeded in getting the DNA meshed out so harmoniously. You will almost invariably discover the importance of TRUST.
Trust generates respect and belongingness. It creates an emotional security for us humans to become our best selves. That in turn has the power to generate stellar Performance.
Needless to say that systems, procedures and controls will always need to be there as guidebars to facilitate governance.
Building a culture of Trust in your Authentic Leadership journey will go a very long way to create successful people, lives, businesses and society.
